JORGE ALVES

HEAD EQUIPMENT MANAGER

Jorge Alves is entering his first season as the head equipment manager and 14th season as a full-time equipment manager for the Hurricanes. He also served as assistant equipment manager for seven years.

The Stoughton, Mass., native attended North Carolina State University from 2002-04 after serving in the United States Marine Corps for four years from 1997-01. While at NCSU, Alves was the starting goaltender for the Wolfpack’s club hockey team.

After graduation, he served professional stints in the ECHL with South Carolina, Greenville, Charlotte and Pensacola, and in the SPHL with Asheville. Alves filled in as a practice goalie for the Hurricanes throughout his time as assistant equipment manager, and he made his NHL debut serving as the Hurricanes’ emergency goaltender against the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 31, 2016, playing the final 7.6 seconds of the third period.

NICK ROY

EQUIPMENT MANAGER

Nick Roy is entering his fifth season with the Hurricanes as equipment manager.

Roy previously worked for the Charlotte Checkers from 2015-20, serving as the visiting locker room attendant and the equipment assistant before being named assistant equipment manager ahead of the 2019-20 season. He also gained experience as a clubhouse assistant for the Charlotte Knights in 2014. While in those roles, Roy also served as director of baseball operations for Wingate University from 2010-17.

He graduated from Wingate with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and a master’s in sport administration.

PATRICK BUDDS

ASSISTANT EQUIPMENT MANAGER

Patrick Budds is entering his first year as an assistant equipment manager and ninth year with the Hurricanes organization. He previously served five seasons as the Hurricanes equipment assistant and three seasons as a locker room attendant. 

CJ REIF

EQUIPMENT ASSISTANT

Clinton Reif better known as CJ is entering his first year as equipment assistant for the Carolina
Hurricanes. He previously worked for the Hurricanes AHL affiliate the Chicago Wolves from 2016-25, originally helping out on game days and then hired as a full time Assistant Equipment
Manager in 2023.
