Cam Abbott is joining the Hurricanes’ organization in 2024-25 as the head coach of the Chicago Wolves. Before returning to North America, Abbott served as head coach of Rogle BK in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) from 2017-23. He joined Rogle BK in 2017-18 and helped save the team from relegation. In the following season, Abbott led the club to its first SHL playoff berth since rejoining the league in 2015-16. He then led Rogle BK to a second-place regular-season finish and Le Mat Trophy Final appearance in 2020-21. The following season, Abbott became the first non-Swedish coach to be named SHL Coach of the Year, after Rogle BK finished first in the SHL regular-season standings and won the 2021-22 Champions Hockey League. Prior to coaching Rogle BK, he also served as head coach of Vaxjo Lakers’ under-20 team from 2016-17.
The Sarnia, Ont., native also played eight seasons of professional hockey from 2006-15, with stints in the SHL/Elitserien, Norwegian professional league, Central Hockey League and ECHL. He spent most of his professional career in Sweden, recording 166 points (74g, 92a) in 276 SHL/Elitserien games with Rogle BK and Lulea HF from 2008-15. Prior to his professional career, Abbott played four seasons of college hockey at Cornell from 2002-06, tallying 62 points (23g, 39a) in 125 games and winning ECAC titles in 2002-03 and 2004-05.
